I am looking at the link Rod-It posted and it says that using DISM is for windows 8.i and later.
I am also trying to open up the start component cleanup only when I get to the "windows" category in task scheduler at that place is no category for servicing i practice non see the category for servicing
control panel/System and Maintenance/Administrative tools/Job Scheduler/ Microsoft/Windows/Servicing?

Lamentable it took WAY also long to go back but I call up I have a fix but I wanted to runit by the forum starting time.
A few of you mentioned that DISM should work to gear up the size of the winsxs folder.
the command I constitute online is
DISM.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /spsuperseded
I wanted to know if anyone has tried this before I go ahead and execute this command
I have heard that the winsxs folder is very important and I don't want to foul annihilation upwardly anymore than I accept already.
Thanks Guys

That command works fine, information technology only cleans upward service pack information though

The bulldoze in question is but 40Gbs and just has about 4.33 Gb of free space.
The winsxs folder is 14 Gb
Do you think I will encounter whatever major difference

run information technology and find out. Worst case is, no.

later I run the command the output says
"Service Pack Cleanup cant't proceed: No service pack backup files were establish. The functioning Completed successfully"
I saw no changes to the size of the the folder

As I would expect you lot not to, service packs are rare these days and in one case applied are ordinarily from pre-bundled media.
There isn't much else you can do without compressing the folder.
Add more space?

Nah that'southward a picayune above my skillset right now. Its a pretty old server that should have been replaced a few years ago,
mayhap thats why they let the newb handle it.
I have about 4 servers that I am currently trying to find infinite for, the control seems to be working on one right now and two of them displayed the output I just mentioned upward top.
another displayed the output "DISM.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
I have another command that might work DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /SpSuperseded
What do y'all think should I effort it
thumb_up thumb_down
That's the same command as above, it only cleans upwardly sometime service pack data

You lot're right
thought if I left the .exe off information technology would make a difference.
On the bright side, ane of the servers now has 25 Gb's of free space. and that'south an comeback.
Cheers you lot soo much for all your help I will endeavor to ask i of the other techs at work if they take any other suggestions and I will continue to plug away.

I jus tsaw an article http://blog.willbeattie.net/2013/06/freeing-deejay-space-on-c-windows-server.html
what do you recall virtually deleting the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
thumb_up thumb_down
I would shrink the binder earlier you delete anything or expand the space.

I also found this
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Information\Applications\Windows
that would free up about 2.five Gbs.
I take no idea what this file is
